About this tour
Missing ghar jaisa khana in Bangkok? This sailing on the Princess Cruise pairs a chef-cooked Indian buffet with two hours on the Chao Phraya River, passing the city's main temples and bridges after dark. Dinner and sightseeing happen at the same time, so a single evening covers both.
The Chao Phraya Princess sets aside one boat each night for an Indian buffet, departing from the Charoennakorn Soi 61 Pier. Most of the guests are Indian families, and the menu is built around that: unlimited vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, with a handful of international items for children who prefer something plainer. There are no chopsticks or unfamiliar Thai dishes to navigate. A welcome drink is served as you board, and coffee and tea are available right through the cruise.
From 1 July 2026, boarding moves to the new Charoennakorn Soi 61 Pier. The cruise timing stays the same (7:30–9:30 PM); only the pier changes. We confirm your exact pier and send a location pin on WhatsApp when you book.
Over the 2-hour route, the boat passes several landmarks, each one floodlit at night:
- Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) — its riverside spire is the view most people come for, clearest from the open deck.
- The Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew — gilded rooftops picked out by lights along the east bank.
- Rama VIII Bridge — a single-pylon suspension bridge, its cables outlined in light.
- ICONSIAM — the riverfront mall, with the Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula hotels standing on the bank nearby.
A live band plays through the evening, working through English numbers, pop-jazz and Indian songs. Guests move freely between the open-air upper deck, which is the spot for photos and fresh air, and the air-conditioned lower deck. For an anniversary or birthday, let us know when you book and we will arrange a cake on board at no charge.
Who it suits: this is a sit-down evening with no walking or early start, so it works for older travellers and young children as easily as for couples or groups. The draw is familiar food, live music and a clear view of the city skyline from the water.
Please note: Smart-casual dress code — please avoid shorts and flip-flops for men. Hotel transfers are available on request at additional cost. Bringing an infant stroller? Please inform us in advance so we can notify the activity operator.

Quick tips for your trip
- When to arrive: Check-in runs from 6:30 PM at the Charoennakorn Soi 61 Pier and the boat leaves at 7:30 PM sharp. Bangkok traffic is slow in the evening, so leave your hotel with time to spare and aim to reach 15 to 20 minutes before check-in. We send the exact location pin on WhatsApp when you book.
- What to wear: Smart casual. Light, comfortable clothing is the practical choice; men should skip shorts and flip-flops. Bring a thin layer for the open upper deck, where it gets breezy.
- For photos: The temple views fall in the second half of the route, so be on the upper deck by about 8:30 PM for the Wat Arun and Grand Palace stretch, when the buildings are lit against a dark sky.
- How long to set aside: Budget roughly 3 hours door to door: about an hour for check-in and boarding, then the 2-hour cruise from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
- Birthday cake: If you are marking an occasion on board, tell us when you book and we will have a complimentary cake ready.

Frequently asked questions
-
Is pure vegetarian food available?
Yes. The buffet is built around Indian cooking, so vegetarian dishes are part of every sitting — paneer curries, dal, biryani, breads, salads and desserts — laid out next to the non-vegetarian options. Servings are unlimited. For a stricter requirement such as Jain food or no onion-garlic, message us on WhatsApp before the date and we will confirm what the kitchen can do. There are always 1-2 options available for those with Jain food.
-
Does the cruise work for young children and older parents?
Bilkul. The whole evening is seated — you board, eat, and watch the views and the band — so there is nothing physically demanding for grandparents or small kids. Children under 4 travel free. The lower deck is air-conditioned for anyone who would rather stay out of the heat, with the open deck a few steps away when you want photos or air.
-
Which pier does it sail from, and how long is the journey there?
The boat leaves from the Charoennakorn Soi 61 Pier. (Note: from 1 July 2026 boarding moves to this new pier — the timing of 7:30–9:30 PM stays the same.) From Sukhumvit or Silom it is about 20 to 40 minutes by Grab or taxi, though Bangkok fills up with traffic in the evenings, so allow extra time to make the 6:30 PM check-in. We confirm your exact pier and send the location pin over WhatsApp when you book.
-
Can we sit on the upper deck, and is photography allowed?
There is no fixed seating split — guests use both decks freely, so you can take the open upper deck for the views, though the good spots fill up, so board early. Photos are fine anywhere on board. The clearest shots come during the Wat Arun and Grand Palace stretch at about 8:30 PM.
-
What drinks are included, and what is the cancellation policy?
A welcome drink, coffee and tea are included. Alcohol is sold on board at extra cost. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before departure; inside that window the booking is non-refundable. To change or cancel, message us on WhatsApp.
