About this tour
8 Adventures is a full day of mud, water and adrenaline for travellers who want more than a sightseeing tour. It runs from a basecamp in the Mae Taeng valley, about 46 km (roughly 1.5 hours) north of Chiang Mai city, and packs white-water rafting, ATV quad-biking and jungle trekking into a single day out. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Chiang Mai are included, and the Trip Dust team handles the booking in Hindi & English, so you can switch off your phone and switch on the masti.
The activities run at a basecamp deep in the mountains. Here is what a day can include — your exact mix depends on the package you choose:
- White-Water Rafting — the main activity for most groups. You run the Mae Taeng River on a stretch graded Class III–IV, broken up by flatter pools where the current slows and the gorge opens onto forest, riverside farms and a few of the elephant camps that sit along this valley. CE helmets and Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided, and a trained guide steers every raft.
- ATV Quad-Biking — roughly three hours on a quad bike, taking in village lanes, forest tracks and a purpose-built off-road circuit with water crossings and sandy sections. No experience is needed; you get full instruction before the ride.
- Jungle Trekking — a guided trek through the forest with a creek walk and a swim under a waterfall. A great alternative if you would rather be on two feet than four wheels.
- Lunch & showers at basecamp — a hot lunch is served, and there are showers to clean up before the ride home. They also hand out plastic bags for your wet, muddy clothes.
This is a physical day out rather than a gentle excursion, so it works best for reasonably fit travellers: families with teenagers, couples and groups of friends. It rewards a little nerve — but please read the safety notes below first. Rafting and ATV both carry age, weight and health restrictions, and the longer raft requires that you can swim.
Please note: Wear secure sandals and a swimsuit, but bring a full set of dry clothes for the ride home; participants must be able to swim and should inform staff if they weigh over 120 kg. Minimum age for the 10 km raft is 15 years (an easier 8 km section is available for younger children, subject to water level). To drive an ATV you must be at least 15 — younger children ride as passengers. Not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with heart, back or neck problems.

Quick tips for your trip
- When to go: Departures are morning-only, with pickup between 8:00 and 8:30 AM to cover the 1.5-hour drive to the Mae Taeng basecamp. The cool, dry season from November to February is the easiest weather for a full day outdoors; expect higher water and bigger rapids in the rainy months.
- What to wear and bring: Come in a swimsuit and old shoes or strapped sandals you do not mind getting wet and muddy, and pack a complete set of dry clothes and a towel for the drive back. Bring mosquito repellent and a photo of your passport on your phone, and leave valuables at the hotel.
- Photos: Keep your phone zipped away during the rafting and ATV legs, where everything gets soaked and splattered. Guides shoot action photos along the way and play them back at lunch, and you can buy the set afterwards if you want a record of the day.
- How long it takes: Set aside the whole day, around 7 to 8 hours from pickup to drop-off. The Single Tour returns to Chiang Mai city about 4:00 PM and the Combination Tour about 7:00 PM.

Frequently asked questions
-
Where is the basecamp, and do you collect us from the hotel?
The basecamp sits in the Mae Taeng valley, about 46 km north of the city, which works out to roughly 90 minutes by road in each direction. Your hotel in Chiang Mai city is covered for both pickup and drop-off, with collection scheduled between 8:00 and 8:30 AM.
-
Can young children and older parents join?
The day suits people in reasonable physical condition. The 10 km raft has a minimum age of 15 and asks that you can swim, while a gentler 8 km section opens up to children from around age 7 when the water level allows. Driving an ATV also requires age 15 or above; younger children come along as passengers. Because it is not advised during pregnancy or for anyone with heart, back or neck conditions, it is rarely a good fit for elderly parents.
-
I am a weak swimmer. Is rafting still possible for me?
Swimming ability is required for the full 10 km route. Every person is fitted with a Coast Guard-approved life jacket and a CE helmet and a trained guide runs each raft, but the Class III–IV rapids mean this is a firm condition rather than a formality. Message us on WhatsApp if you do not swim and we will steer you towards a better-suited activity.
-
What is served for lunch, and is there a pure-veg option?
Lunch is a hot meal at the basecamp, and the default is non-vegetarian, usually chicken with rice. Pure-vegetarian guests, or anyone with a specific dietary need, should let us know when booking so we can arrange a suitable plate at the camp in advance.
-
How well managed is the rafting from a safety point of view?
The rafting operator holds international certification, and the guides are trained in First Aid and CPR. Each person gets a CE helmet and a Coast Guard-approved life jacket. The river runs Class III–IV with calmer water between the rapids, and you receive a full safety briefing before pushing off.
