About this tour

The Pattaya Floating Market, also called the Four Regions Floating Market, is a purpose-built village set over a network of canals on the city's outskirts. Vendors sell from traditional wooden boats and stilted shophouses linked by raised walkways, and the site runs daily cultural shows alongside food stalls and craft workshops. It opened in 2008 and now covers roughly 100,000 square metres, so most visitors plan two to three hours to cover it on foot.

The layout is divided into four zones, one for each region of Thailand, which lets you move between distinct regional styles within a single visit:

  • The four regional zones — North, Northeast (Isan), Central and South, each built in its own architectural style and stocked with regional goods: carved teak, silk and hand-painted paper umbrellas in the North, coconut-shell crafts and seafood dishes in the South.
  • Traditional Thai performances — scheduled daily shows featuring classical Thai dance, regional music and Muay Thai demonstrations.
  • Rowing-boat ride (optional) — a hand-rowed boat takes you along the canals at water level, which is the slower way to see the stilted houses and bridges. Book it as an add-on at the time of reservation.
  • Thai costume photoshoot (optional) — rent a traditional Thai outfit and have photos taken around the bridges and moored boats. The costume rental is a separate add-on.
  • Street food & shopping — buy Thai snacks and sweets directly from the boats and stalls, and browse handicrafts and souvenirs as you walk the market.

The visit works for a range of travellers, including families with young children, couples and groups. Everything is at walking pace on the level, so older visitors can take their time; wear flat, secure footwear for the wooden walkways and bring cash, since many vendors take Thai Baht only.

Please note: Many vendors prefer cash transactions — ensure you have sufficient Thai Baht for your purchases.

Quick tips for your trip

  • When to go: Either 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or after 4:00 PM avoids the midday heat; the later slot also gives softer light for photos.
  • What to wear: The market is open-air and you cover it on foot, so light, breathable clothing and flat shoes that grip the wooden walkways work best.
  • For photographers: Late afternoon brings warm, low light across the canals, wooden houses, boats and performance areas. A polarising filter helps cut glare off the water.
  • How long to allow: Two to three hours is enough to walk all four zones, watch a show, eat, and browse the stalls. Add the boat ride or costume shoot and you will want closer to three.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where exactly is the market, and how do we reach it?

It sits on Sukhumvit Road on the Na Jomtien side of town, about 30 to 45 minutes from the main Pattaya beach area depending on your hotel and the traffic. A Grab, metered taxi or songthaew (baht bus) all get you there without trouble. We can arrange hotel pick-up and drop-off for an additional charge; message us on WhatsApp to add it.

  • Are there vegetarian or Indian food options?

The stalls are mostly Thai street food, but pure-vegetarian snacks are easy to find: fresh fruit, grilled corn, coconut sweets and sweet rotis. The market suits grazing rather than a sit-down meal, so plan a full Indian or vegetarian lunch before or after the visit. Send us your preferences on WhatsApp and we will suggest Indian and veg restaurants along the route.

  • Does it work for young children and older parents?

Yes. The whole visit is on foot at an easy pace with plenty to see, so it suits both kids and older travellers. Children's tickets are discounted and infants enter free. The wooden walkways are uneven in a few spots, so flat footwear and an unhurried pace are worth keeping in mind for anyone less steady on their feet.

  • Is photography allowed, and how does the Thai costume add-on work?

Photography is free throughout, and the canals, wooden bridges and painted boats give you plenty to shoot, particularly in late-afternoon light. For dress-up photos, add the optional Thai costume experience when you book: you choose a traditional outfit and take pictures around the market. Couples and children tend to make the most of it.

  • Does the ticket include the boat ride, and when is the quietest time to visit?

The hand-rowed canal ride is a separate add-on. Choose a package that includes it at checkout, or take only the entrance ticket and explore from the walkways. On timing, mid-morning is the calmest for shopping, while after 4 PM brings cooler air and better light. The market generally opens daily, and we reconfirm the current hours on WhatsApp before you go.
