About this tour

Pattaya Elephant Village is the city's oldest elephant camp, open since 1973. It started as a home for former working elephants, animals that once hauled timber in the region, and now runs as a green, low-key camp on the edge of town where you can see them at close range, take a short trek, and watch a traditional Thai cultural show. It works well as a half-day outing for anyone who wants time with elephants without a long drive out of Pattaya.

Here is what a visit typically includes:

  • Elephant trek: ride through the grounds on a choice of routes. Three durations are available, so you can match the ride to your time and comfort: a short 10–15 minute taster, a 25–30 minute ride, or a longer 40-minute trek.
  • Cultural & elephant show: daily performances that pair classical Thai dance with elephant-skill demonstrations. They tend to hold the attention of younger children and older travellers equally.
  • Feeding & bathing: buy a basket of bananas or sugarcane to hand-feed the elephants, and at bath time you can help splash and scrub them down.
  • Ox-cart ride & grounds: a slow ox-cart loop past wooden houses and open fields, plus a small Ganesha museum and the on-site café.

It suits families with children, couples and first-time visitors who want close contact with elephants near Pattaya without travelling far. One thing to be clear about before you book: this is a working, commercial elephant camp with rides and shows, not a no-contact rescue sanctuary. If you would prefer a strictly hands-off, no-riding experience, tell our team on WhatsApp and we will point you to a more suitable option.

Please note: Mornings are the most comfortable time to visit, before the midday heat. Timings can change by season — we confirm the current schedule and show times for your date on WhatsApp.

Quick tips for your trip

  • Recommended time to visit: A morning slot is cooler, and the elephants tend to be more active earlier in the day. Weekdays draw smaller crowds than weekends. We confirm the show timings for your date on WhatsApp.
  • Dress code: Light, breathable clothes you don't mind getting splashed or dusty, plus closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals for the natural ground. Carry a hat, sunscreen and water.
  • Photography tip: Use burst mode for the show and the bath-time splashes, and keep the flash off so the elephants stay at ease. Late-morning light through the trees gives the most natural-looking shots.
  • Recommended visit duration: Plan for about 2 to 3 hours to cover your trek, the cultural show, feeding and a wander around the grounds and café.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does the visit work for young kids and older parents?

Yes, it is a popular family outing. Children enjoy feeding the elephants and watching the show, and the grounds are mostly flat and easy underfoot for older visitors. The trek is optional, so anyone who prefers to watch, feed and take photos can skip the ride. Let us know your group when booking and we will suggest a trek length that fits.

  • Where is Elephant Village, and how do we reach it from town?

The village sits in the Nong Prue area on the edge of town, about 20–30 minutes from central Pattaya and Beach Road depending on traffic. A Grab, taxi or songthaew (baht bus) gets you there without trouble. We can also arrange doorstep pickup and drop-off on a paid basis; just ask on WhatsApp.

  • Is there vegetarian or Indian food nearby?

The on-site café serves snacks and drinks, but not Indian food. Since the visit runs only 2–3 hours, most guests have a full meal before or after at one of Pattaya's many Indian and vegetarian restaurants in town. We are glad to recommend a few near your hotel.

  • Are photos and videos allowed during the visit?

Yes. The trek, the show, feeding and bath time all photograph well. Please switch off your flash near the elephants so they stay calm.

  • How long is the elephant ride, and is it compulsory?

The trek is optional and comes in three lengths: a short 10–15 minute ride, a 25–30 minute ride, or a longer 40-minute trek. Choose whichever you prefer, or skip the ride entirely and visit for the show, feeding and grounds.
