About this tour
Banana Beach is a bay on Koh Hey (Coral Island), a small island a short speedboat ride from Phuket. It is a stretch of white sand sheltered by trees along the shoreline, with calm, clear water suited to swimming and snorkelling. Trip Dust arranges the hotel pickup, the boat transfer and the day's timing, so the trip needs no planning on your part.
The day begins with a hotel pickup and a drive to Chalong Pier, followed by a 15 to 20 minute speedboat ride to the island. The reef begins close to the shore, so you can snorkel over the coral, settle into a beach chair in the shade, or swim in the shallows. Lunch is a buffet served on the island, with time to rest under the trees between swims.
A typical day on the island covers the following:
- Snorkelling off the beach. The reef lies close in shallow water, so first-timers can float over the coral with a mask and life jacket. Gear is provided.
- Beach facilities. A beach chair, a towel, fresh fruit and cold drinks are part of the package.
- Buffet lunch on the island. A beachfront meal is included; let us know in advance and we will arrange vegetarian, Jain or Indian-style food where the kitchen allows.
- Optional water sports. Parasailing, a banana boat ride, the sea-walker, a clear kayak, the zipline and a discovery scuba dive can be added on the beach as paid extras.
Who it suits
The trip works well for families with children, couples and groups of friends who want a relaxed beach day with snorkelling and lunch already organised. The gentle water and shaded sand make it comfortable across age groups. The one point to weigh is the speedboat crossing over open sea, which can be rough. Keep this in mind for very young children, pregnant women, travellers over 60, and anyone prone to back, heart or motion-sickness problems.

Quick tips for your trip
- When to go: The outing runs about 7 to 8 hours including transfers, with most departures in the morning. We confirm your hotel pickup time on WhatsApp the day before.
- What to bring and wear: Swimwear under light clothes, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Flip-flops are best, since your feet get wet boarding the boat and on the sand.
- Photography: Light on the water is strongest from mid-morning to early afternoon. Bring a waterproof phone pouch or a GoPro for snorkelling shots, as no underwater camera is provided.
- How long you get on the island: Expect a few hours ashore for snorkelling, the beach and lunch before the return speedboat.
- Health and safety: The speedboat ride is fast and can be rough on open water. It is not advised for pregnant women, travellers over 60, or anyone with heart or back problems. Each water sport sets its own age and weight limits.

Frequently asked questions
-
What food is served at lunch, and can you cater to vegetarian or Indian diets?
Lunch is served as a buffet on the island. Note your dietary preference at the time of booking and we can usually arrange vegetarian, Jain or Indian-style dishes. On any island trip it helps to pack a few snacks of your own if you eat to a strict diet.
-
Can young children and older parents manage this trip?
For the most part, yes. The sand is shaded, the bay stays calm, and the pace is unhurried, which suits families. The exception is the speedboat leg across open sea, which can get bumpy. We advise against the boat for pregnant women, anyone over 60, and travellers with heart, back or severe motion-sickness problems.
-
Can I take part in the snorkelling if I cannot swim?
You can. A life jacket is worn at all times and the coordinator stays nearby to assist. Because the reef sits in shallow, calm water close to shore, you can float and watch the coral below without swimming. There is no pressure to go faster than you are comfortable with.
-
How far is the island from Phuket, and is the transfer arranged?
A shared van collects you from your hotel and drives to Chalong Pier, from where the speedboat reaches Koh Hey in 15 to 20 minutes. The van transfer is free within the main Phuket zones: Phuket town, Patong, Kata, Karon, Rawai, Nai Harn, Chalong and Panwa. Hotels beyond these areas can be served for an added fee, which we will quote on WhatsApp.
-
Which activities are covered in the price, and which cost extra?
The price covers snorkelling, the beach chair, towel and buffet lunch. Parasailing, the banana boat, sea-walker, clear kayak, zipline and discovery scuba diving are optional and paid for separately on the island. Most carry age and weight limits, commonly 10 to 60 years and up to around 80 kg, so confirm the conditions at the activity counter on the day.
